Bache-Gabrielsen’s Pineau des Charentes is made from Ugni Blanc, Colombard and Folle Blanche grapes and matured in casks for 20 years.
Pineau des Charentes was discovered several hundred years ago in the Charente region of France. A local wine grower poured grape must into an oak cask containing cognac by mistake. Several years later he took the cask out of his cellar and discovered to his great delight that it contained a pleasantly sweet, fruity drink.
Over time it has become France’s favourite fortified wine and is enjoyed by all enthusiasts.
This Very Old Pineau is a sweet drink with flavours of nuts, dried apricots and well-matured cognac.
Best served chilled as an aperitif, it is an amazing pairing with cheeses or desserts. It can also be a delightful treat on its own.
